Last Show for 2012, SHAKEDOWN at the Tote

SUNDAY DECEMBER 16 @ THE TOTE, Collingwood, Vic, Australia.
3pm-11pm, $12 entry, 8 bands, bbq.

SONS OF LEE MARVIN
LA BASTARD
DAMN THE TORPEDOES
UPTOWN ACE
HARVEST SMOKE
NICI BLUE EYES
LEECHES (WA)
THE MOCKINGBIRD

It's almost Xmas, so let's have a party right! This show is so incestuous it would make your Uncle-dad shudder.

SONS OF LEE MARVIN - garage gonzo elders with a 3rd album 'Cutthroats & Conjurers' just released with a handful of fairly fucked up & loose album launch shows in September & October just gone. Not quite rested and with busted limbs kind of healed, best they get at it again

LA BASTARD - (I'm sure you know who we are...)

DAMN THE TORPEDOES - slick, well-oiled rock'n'roll machine that will most likely embarrass the other bands on the bill. In fact they are deadly

UPTOWN ACE - big pop rock songs from those with a pedigree in guitar squeals, high kicks and bottom end

HARVEST SMOKE  almost a year since their last show, but they're all in the one town for a weekend so best hit up some cowpunk rock'n'roll for it

NICI BLUE EYES - country ballads that will make your socks melt

LEECHESPerth skatepunk thrash band touring Melbourne on the back of a new 7" vinyl release called 'Rott'. Short.Fast.Fuck!.

THE MOCKINGBIRD - Sweet country sounds to kick it all off -

We're BACK! And so much to tell!

So, I've been overseas the last few months and the band has been on hiatus. A lot of things have been happening in La La land so let's start way back in June to a time where I wasn't over airports.

We had the last show in June with our old and much loved bass player Jimi, who has now decided to focus on fixing people's brains as a profession, and consequently this takes up a lot of time. The show was a lot of fun and the band is very sad to see him go.

Ben flew off to the USA around the same time I did (yes, he went on his own adventures too) but we managed to sneak into Secret Location Studios with Jesse Booher and Paul Maybury, get down tracks for our new album, and squeeze in some mixing as well!

Our new bass player, Dick, snuck into the band while I was away. He also plays in the amazing band Damn The Torpedoes (incestuous lot, musicians...) and will be a busy, busy person in the coming months. Welcome to the fold!

We had our first official show in 6 months at the Old Bar on Friday with the Mightiest of Guns, and  Sun God Replica, Link from The Meanies new band. What a way to break in a new bass player hey!

Time for rest! Sort of.....

What an amazing single launch! It's always so fun to be in front of an audience which dances and has fun and appreciates what you are doing! Thank you so much for coming down and making it the night it was. Other bands were fantastic and everyone was happy. Couldn't ask for much more!

Here's a live review from Inpress from the single launch last Friday night

AND Chuma photos HERE

Read the 60 Seconds with La Bastard from Beat Magazine HERE

And The MX and MX Twitter promos below, which are lovely...

All the radio stuff went ace pants as well. People have been super sweet.

AND on a side note as I wore that floral dress in the clip, the promo shots as well as at the album launch I officially can't wear it again for fear of recrimination in Who or Women's Day magazine.

Hrmm....what a come down after the launch! Last of the 'Take Me Away' limited t-shirts have been sent out today, just getting some mixing done now on the album before we bugger off for a while and  other little bits and pieces...

The single, the album and various t shirts are still available HERE

*******************

We will miss Jimi tremendously. I won't crap on about it, but it will be hard to find another bass player that is equally as awesome as a person and musician.

anyways...........YaaaAAaaaAAaAAY to holidays!!

Single Launch less than 2 weeks away!!

Eeeeeehhh!!!

If you haven't been under a rock and you 'Like' our Facebook page you can listen to the single. Download card upon entry to the launch, and last Jimi show :o( Press release with a hint of news to come is down below for your reading pleasure....

In Feb 2011 the band released their self-titled debut album on prestigious garage rock label, Off the Hip Records. This has been followed by successful shows in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide, sharing the stage with Spain’s garage rock-legends Los Chicos, and local legends Brothers Grim and the Blue Murders and the Toot Toot Toots. Not willing to stand still for long, the band headed back to the studio with Rocket Science’s Paul Maybury in May 2012 to record 13 new tracks for their second album, due for release in December 2012. The band will be taking a 5 month hiatus from late June while various members head overseas, so La Bastard are leaving you with a little gift to tide you over until their triumphant return – a 3 track single featuring the tropical ‘Take Me Away’, ‘Pitch Black’ a manic tale of things that go bump in the night, plus a special sneak peak at the new album with the explosive psychobilly rampage of ‘Stranger in the Night’.
The band will launch the new single at the John Curtin Bandroom, 29 Lygon St on Friday 22nd June. Joining them will be two of Melbourne’s hottest bands, the Peep Tempel and the Velocettes. Remember – this will be the band’s LAST show until the end of the year, and their VERY LAST with bass player Jimi. Come and give him a send-off to remember!

We have some interviews etc. lined up, so keep your eyes/ears peeled at RRR/PBS Beat and Inpress and whatever other Melbourne music institutions we manage to harass into paying us attention!

Album Review In Beat Magazine 25th April 2012

This looks GREAT!!

Brothers Grim Support 18th May 2012

Looks like this will be our next Melbourne show!

You can pre-purchase tickets for this HERE as the line for our last show meant lots of people missed out on La Bastard. This will probably sell out anyway, regardless of us playing or not, because it's The Brothers Grim!!!

On that note, apologies for those stuck in the line for up to an hour who wanted to see us or Mesa Cosa play. We have some great shows coming up over the next few months before our temporary hiatus while Ben and myself both do some work/holiday travels.

We're heading back into the studio very soon to knock over our second album, as well as making tentative plans for some digital singles to be released which is exciting. Maybe we can try and squeeze in another video clip or two to boot!

The last few shows we've done, especially with Los Chicos and Mesa Cosa have been fun. I can't imagine you cats getting more wild!

Filming finished & other show details

So the weekend's filming went really well. It ran a couple of hours behind schedule (Partially my fault!), but what shoot actually runs on time huh? Stuart is busy editing at the moment so we should see the finished product by the time the album launch comes around on February 3rd.

Filming was done at the Masonic Hall in Collingwood. Its an amazing building with all pre WWII fixtures and everything. Its just beautiful. I think they are trying to get together money to renovate the place as it isn't in the best of conditions (Looked pretty sweet when we were there, but anyway, what would I know?) but they are a good place to hire if you need a hall or meeting room for your um, non Masonic functions!

There were a quite a number of costume changes involved for the band itself. As usual I was the highest maintenance out of all of us! But the end result will look great. All the audience members and swing dancers that rocked up, were well worth the vegan and gluten free cooking that was done the night before by yours truly, and more extravagantly by Ben. They all looked super amazing as well as put in a stella effort dance-wise. To be honest I'm still a little sore from the weekend. I didn't realise how many many hours I was actually moving and dancing until the next day. I don't think all the restrictive suck-em-in underwear helped either.
Thanks goes out to all the people that rocked up on the day, Stuart, Claire and their crew, Jilly for hair, Elise for makeup, and the Collingwood Masonic Hall for being awesome.

There's a few photos up on the Facebook page from the day too if you're curious. Otherwise you will hae to wait to see what the end result will be!

Onto shows!

So, the band pretty much has 2 shows planned in January before the launch date.

January 21st @ Gigfest, Bendigo in Central Victoria
Details can be found here
January 27th @ The Penny Black on Sydney Road, Brunswick
Details can be found here

Get on down and get your boogie on!

Take care
